The Happy House Orphanage in Somanya, Ghana, currently homes 33 orphaned children. As it is a two hour drive from Accra, the capital city of Ghana, it is not quite as fortunate as orphanages closer to the big population centres and has to work harder at fundraising. So we really need your help!

The orphanage is part of the way through a vital project to expand and improve its facilities for cooking, showering and accommodation for 50 children. A previous donation was given to bring the blockwork up to the first floor level but funds have run dry and we are looking to raise £15,000 to complete phase 1 of the building works.

This will mean a significant improvement to the facilities at the Orphanage and will make a real difference to the lives of these wonderful children who have already faced intolerable levels of hardship in their lives.

So far, we have raised funds to provide critical water supply, school equipment and Christmas presents for the children, most of which had never received a present in their lives. More recently we were able to purchase new metal bedframes as an infestation in the old wooden beds exposed the children to bites from insects and therefore needed to be destroyed, leaving the children sleeping on the floor.

In the future we would like to raise enough money to complete phase 2 of the building works, provide further necessary school equipment and also critical transportation in the form of a mini-bus, as currently the orphanage has no way of transporting the kids or helping to support its operation.
