A wife who loses a husband is called a widow. A husband who loses a wife is called a widower. A child who loses his parents is called an orphan. There can never be any words for a parent who loses a child.

Alexander Parsons was born on the 6th August 2019. He was the most perfect bundle of loveliness that his family had ever seen. He had the sweetest temperament and loved to giggle and laugh with his family. He changed our lives forever, he affected everyone he came into contact with- never had a baby been so widely adored and loved.

On 3rd April 2020, Alexander became unwell with a very high temperature and large swelling to his neck. His parents called NHS 111, administered regular pain relief and remained vigilant as directed; as due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was so much fear about taking him to be seen face to face at an NHS facility.

Alexander continued to be very unwell, his temperature didn’t abate and he developed a body wide rash that looked like sunburn, he had diarrhoea and vomiting and his heart rate was extremely high. He was admitted to hospital on Monday 6th April.

He was quickly diagnosed with Kawasaki disease and appropriate treatment was started. Unfortunately he was unresponsive to this and continued to deteriorate. He had vasculitis, giant coronary aneurysms and was at risk of blood clots and a heart attack.

On the 25th April 2020, in his mummy’s arms- the safest place that he had ever known and loved- Alexander passed away when an aneurysm ruptured.

Alexander tested negative every time for Covid-19 via a nasal swab. Since then there has been much talk of ‘Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome’ - possibly associated with SARSCoV2 pandemic, with a number of children and adolescents being affected and diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease and/or toxic shock syndrome.

His parents, in his memory want to raise awareness of this possible Kawasaki Disease/PIMS to prevent the heartache and suffering of any other families. They want to highlight the symptoms that he had and the importance of seeking medical advice in such a turbulent and scary time. They want to raise funds for the Kawasaki Disease UK charity, Societi.org.uk, as a thank you to the wonderful support, advice, kindness and love that the Facebook Kawasaki Support Group UK showed to them during Alex's illness and since his passing.

They also want to raise money for bereavement support, any additional funeral costs and a memorial for Alex. This will in some way, hopefully help them to slowly rebuild their lives and take the time that they need to grieve without the added pressure to return to ‘normality’.

If you know or knew Kath, Jon and Alex, and can possibly contribute towards their healing journey, it would be very much appreciated. No one can ever envisage living without their child, but that’s what we want them to do; live and remember their gorgeous boy with the help of their family and friends.
