Story
Gwili Railway. We are a small heritage railway based in Carmarthenshire. Our railway company is run by the Gwili Preservation Society and their volunteers. We are at the next stage in our development and want to keep the lines open for future generations to enjoy. We would like to extend the line to Llanpumsaint adding another 5 miles to our journey. The environment and scenery of our old line has been untouched by modern man for over 40 years. Bridges need repairing, the line needs restoring. Our volunteers give their time freely. We receive no government aid or charity funding. Everyone who travels the line helps keep our railway running.
The Gwili Railway has the potential to be the number one tourist attraction in Carmarthenshire. The vision for the future is to provide entertainment for its customers combining this with a ride on a heritage steam train through beautiful Welsh countryside. The initial plan is to upgrade and develop the existing line and the facilities that the railway can offer.
The existing line is just under 2.5 miles long and it is intended to initially extend this south towards Carmarthen to the site of the former Abergwili Junction. Here it is intended to build a station and a state of the art visitors' centre. The visitors' centre will include facilities that will be an asset to the community and will provide covered areas for children to play and for museum displays. Other all year round facilities such as a Coffee Shop/Cafe will also be built. Access to the railway will be from the Carmarthen by pass; a new large car park will accommodate many cars and several coaches. The running line will then be 4.0 miles long.
Our aim is to extend in the future to Conwil and eventually Llanpumpsaint.

This appeal is for a project which combines practicality with preservation, an ideal balance of objectives to move the Railway forward. Like many heritage lines, the Gwili Railway makes use of the standard British Railways Mark 1 carriages.
