Story
To the Beverley community near and far,
My Dad, Ivan Usher, who passed away last August worked as a PE teacher at Longcroft school for 30 years, before setting up a fitness centre in the heart of Beverley. Throughout his career Dad helped people of all ages and abilities, which was reflected when over 600 people attended a memorial service at the Beverley minster to celebrate his life.
Dad had the rare ability to inspire others. He loved all sports whether it was watching, playing or teaching. And through his positivity and energy, he pushed people to reach and even go beyond their potential. He brought out the best in people. One thing my Dad could never quite understand was why Beverley didn’t have a stadium/stand where people could watch the local teams compete. Something even the nearby villages have. From this we have started a campaign for the ‘Ivan Usher memorial stand’, which hope will be erected at Norwood recreational ground for Beverly Town FC. In order to help raise money for this, my wonderful friend Georgina Barnett had a fantastic idea…
Every year my Dad would watch his former pupils and I run in the Beverley 10k. He would encourage everyone from the side and enjoy talking with spectators. Therefore, we have decided to form a team and run in his name - ‘Ivan’s Kangaroo Club’ taken from the name of his former gym group.
We would love your support on the day of the run, whether it’s through donations, spreading the word or simply cheering us on during the race. The run will be held on Sunday 13th May 2018. Look out for the Ushers Fitness Centre Yellow t-shirts on the day!
Following the run, we will meet for celebratory drinks at Armstrongs social club. All welcome.
Our team of runners are listed below. Please help us reach our fundraising target and share our story. Thank you.
Get involved and let’s show our Beverley community spirit,
Love Greg & Hilary Usher
