For seven years I've volunteered around Reddish Vale. Since COVID, we have formed a strong, mobile group who travel all over the park, making improvements to the local neighbourhood by reviving parts of the park which have needed a little TLC. Local residents are always consulted and involved and we have formed a first name terms bond with many even to the point of including the children in litter picking. Going forward, we want to build on the good will we have by working more with other local volunteer groups such as " Friends of Cemeteries" or Orchard associations. We can bring a talented, volunteer workforce to bear to help. We are forming links with several local neighbourhood interest groups. We want people to suggest tasks which we will consider, such as installing benches to create a more welcoming, inclusive, public green space. We recently lost the use of a crew van and are, at present, working from our cars. This is wholly impractical and limits us to litter picking. We don't mind litter picking, but a crew van in which to put the tools we need to do a far more effective job is our aim. What we do is beneficial to all, the volunteers for all kinds of reasons, for local residents whose neighbourhoods are improved with the beautiful parkland, visitors from outside of the area, cyclists, jogger's etc. Pathways are more airey and open, more welcoming and safer. Our bin bags are all over the park. Two thousand kgs of rubbish have been removed in six months. All of this will stop without the vehicle and the tools. There is a pool of nearly a dozen people willing to work in all conditions the year round to keep our greenspace looking better. We need you to help us do that.
