    Story

The philosophy of the Ariana Project is ‘No one left behind’ and we don’t plan to leave anyone behind, no matter how challenging it is to get them to gather themselves and embark on the walk of their lives.

For too long people have been seen as victims needing support and charity, but the aim of the great british walkabout is to empower people who are homeless, destitute, addicted, or have been subject to domestic violence, been imprisoned, have ental health problems, and teach them resiience, and compassion, through a most difficult physical activity.

It would be easy just to raise money to provide money for those on the outside of society, and give them a place to live, but our aims are to give people a higher purpose, so that they may help not only themselves, but others, through the noble art of walking.

The Great British Walkabout is 3000km. From John O Groats to Lands End, Westminister, and back to John O Groats, with the whole walk taking 5 months.

Participants will be provided with walking kit, and support throughout and we hope to inspire mentors to join us to help people through difficult times,.but we realise that at the end of the walk we cannot let people just return to their old way of life, and will be helping them develop skills to help others, not just 'get a job' and be a part of society but help them to evolve.

It is of vital importance that participants have a safe space to do this, and so the idea of Ariana's Sanctuaries was born.

Not just a house, but a space where people can work together to create, and support each other.

We are fundraising on several levels. Initial funding will be used to support participants during the great british walkabout, and then we plan to lease or buy land in various areas in the UK where people can camp, learn, and contribute to the wider society.

It's a big idea, but achievable through participation, support, and recognition that humans are more than just another problem looking for a handout.

Hi everyone, well, it’s not long to go until the start of the great british walkabout! 11 days to be exact! Am I prepared? In a word – no! I haven’t got my marketing materials ready, nor a bank account for donations, nor my winter sleeping bag, nor my dog Hari’s winter equipment – although he is definitely more prepared than I am! I am leaving for John O Groats in Scotland on the 10th and plan to start this epic walk on the 13th! I hope I have enough time! I believe being at the starting line is the key to our success and I'll be there!
