Story
Dear Client, Dear friend,
perhaps, the first encounter when coming to me was to be greeted by Schnapps, the black-and-white cat. He was the leader with his sister, Crackers, of my 'Meet and Greet' team.
Many are worried about making Wills and he was adept at putting them at their ease. Schnapps loved people and I think he thought he was one of us.
There was always a bond between Schnapps and I, but we became even closer during Lockdown, when like many others, visits to friends and family were not possible.
Called 'the cat who thought he was a dog', Schnapps loved the company of people. He used to wait by the door until I arrived home or waited outside to greet me.
He was pretty smart, too. You could see he was interested in things he did not understand. He watched Dr. Who with me and loved David Attenborough's nature programme's and even watched Prof. Brian Cox's ' The Universe' .
I am sorry to say that over the past year Schnapps had a number of conditions which, ultimately, resulted in a major operation at the end of November 2021. Whilst Schnapps operation was successful, he suffered cardiac arrest on reviving and, although they managed to get his heart beating, it stopped again after about 45 minutes and he died.
A dog may be "man's best friend", but to lose a cat "who thinks he is a dog" has been particularly upsetting.
At the same time as I was receiving the reports from the veterinary hospital, I received a newsletter from my university, Aberystwyth, giving the first sight of the new veterinary school .
I have decided to overcome my upset and to do something positive. For me and others Schnapps was a remarkable cat. The least I can do is to commemorate his memory is by arranging a donation to our newest veterinary school.
I do hope you will support me with giving a donation to help train vets to other animals.
If you would let me have you contact details (Schnapps_The_Cat@btinternet.com) , then, I can let you have details arrangements for Gift Aid to increase the amount you donate by 25%.

Update:
I am pleased to say that with the donations of many supporters and a bequest from the estate of the late Gordon Burrows deceased the £100,000 target was achieved and exceeded.
The monies went to create the Small Animal Centre at the veterinary school to help students learn about treating small animals and human skills of understanding their owners:

The formal opening will be in January 2025 when a statue to Schnapps will be unveiled.

2 months agoIn August 2024, I visited the vet school to see the progress on completion of the Small Animal Centre, which Schnapps supporters and a very generous donation from the estate of the late Gordon Burrows, has helped fund. The Centre, has now been completed and its formal opening will be in late January 2025. There will be an unveiling of a small statue of Schnapps, which students can reach out to-as a gesture of good luck-on their way into the centre and Schnapps's surgeon, Pierre Barreau, will be giving an inaugural lecture.
