Story
Flow Mental Health Services are excited to be embarking on a new project alongside the team at "Going Feral for Mental Health" & Traveller Space Devon & Cornwall.
Feral Fest was set up in 2019 by Gary Broome as a charity festival to raise money for mental health causes. To date Gary and his team have raised tens of thousands of pounds, contributing to various mental health initiatives focussed on creating easier access to mental health services for those living in under represented and disparate communities.
Last year alone, the funds from Feral Fest secured the purchase of a mobile mental health drop in Van to be used by Shropshire Mental Health which allows those living in rural areas to access mental health drop-in sessions in their communities.
Both Gary and our own founder and co-director Ollie are classed as No Fixed Abode Travellers, an often underrepresented and marginalised section of society. One of the many strengths of this community is its belief in mutual aid and the power of grass roots movements.
And so, one night around the campfire on a rural Oxfordshire canal towpath the idea was born to partner the power of music and the fantastic Feral Family movement with the clinical services provided by us here at FLOW.
There are recognised health inequalities for those living in traveller/off grid/NFA and alternative communities, and this is certainly true when it comes to accessing mental health services and support.
Our goal is to provide free therapy and counselling to those from within these communities with funds being raised by the fantastic team at Feral to assist in running costs. This is a strictly not for profit enterprise will all funds raised being directly used to pay for therapy.
We will be taking referrals directly from individuals needing support, partner organisations and other third sector organisations.
