I've raised £2000 to support Maggie's Dundee

We are the family of Florence Reid and we are embarking on an epic cycling challenge to raise money for Maggie's and pay tribute to the memory of Flo.
Flo had a profound love for Scotland, its breathtaking landscapes, and to all intents and purposes was also a “golf widow”.
So, this challenge by bike will visit all 7 Scottish golf courses which have hosted the British Open Championship! Ending at Maggie's Dundee. It is an adventure that will embrace the beauty of the Scottish countryside and create lasting memories in Flo’s name.
The challenge will take place over 4 days - Friday 12th- Monday 15th July 2024.
Here's Flo's story and what it means to us.
In the summer of 2020 after displaying symptoms of what we thought at the time was pancreatic cancer, Florence had a short stay in hospital to regulate her symptoms whilst the wonderful team at Ninewells hospital worked towards finding the root of the problem and what to do next .
It was a tricky, uncertain time and The Maggie's Centre Dundee were at the epicentre of support, answering all of our questions however small or insignificant they seemed at the time. It was such a calming place to be and always with a cup of tea and biscuit.
By Christmas 2020 Mum had undergone a Whipples procedure and was on the road to recovery from her major surgery, when we found out in the New Year of 2021 that the diagnosis was Cholangiocarcinoma (Bile Duct cancer). More treatment followed with a course of chemotherapy and more importantly, more trips to Maggie's.
Mum threw herself into her treatment plan with gusto and made the admirable decision to live her life to the full with Cancer and again Maggie's was at the epicentre of her fervour. She attended just about all of the classes on offer, joined Just Sing the newly formed choir and loved the community she found through Maggie's. She hosted bake sales and waxed lyrical about Maggie’s to everyone who would listen.
Mum’s treatment plan worked for so long and gave her a precious burst of life but in December of 2022 her cancer came back with a vengeance. As the disease travelled to her spine and lungs, she became confined to a wheelchair, however she was still working out how she could travel through to Dundee from Perth for her Just Sing rehearsals. Unfortunately that wasn’t to be and mum was moved to Cornhill Macmillan Centre in early January 2023 and passed away peacefully on 17th January.
Mum was full of life and her favourite phrase was ‘things to do, people to see’, she was still planning the things she had to do and the people she had to see right up to the end.
The things to do and the people to see that Maggie’s gave to mum during her short illness was invaluable to her love of life and we enjoyed her enjoying that so much.
Time for us to give something back and support the work that Maggie's does.
