Story
When the whole world is going crazy about global warming and the greenhouse effect’s harmful consequences, tyre manufacturers are also doing their bit towards an eco-friendly approach of making tyres. This is so because the customers are repeatedly demanding eco-friendly tyres ever since they have become aware of the grave consequences of neglecting mother earth. Apart from manufacturing such tyres, they are also trying tyre recycling.
Recycling of Tyres
Going green with tyres is also possible to recycle. Tyre recycling is the usage of old tyres in making new ones instead of letting them go to waste. This can also be called rubber recycling. Recycling helps in managing the massive amount of solid waste that is made by these used and damaged tyres. Anyway, the factories are responsible for producing a lot of garbage to supply good and cheap tyres to the world, so this is just a small way to compensate them all.
But all these years the recycling of tyres was not paid attention to because of its difficulties in doing so. It is not an easy deal to break down a used tyre and make a good quality product out of it which shall be as durable as the brand new ones. Let us get into the details of the procedure.
Procedure for Recycling
The first step includes the gathering of the used or damaged old tyres. These are the collection of such tyres that cannot be fixed in any way to be used by one and has no other option than going to the garbage. The ones in the tyre recycling business hire people to go to some particular collection point and collect such tyres for recycling. They are then sent for processing to the plants.
The next is the processing of these tyres. The tyres are cut into small pieces so that they can be handled easily. Whatever is produced after this stage can be used as a raw material for producing fuel derived from tyres. There are two ways of the processing; one is the mechanical system where the tyres are scrapped into small chips using a granulator with the screen fitted to it that shall help in determining the size of the product. The other is the cryogenic system which involves freezing the tyres.
After tyres are shredded the rubber needs to be freed from the tire wire of steel. This process is also known as steel liberation. This step also includes the separation of fibre and coarse screening. The accumulated steel is then sent to steel factories for recycling.
Next step is known as screening where the rubber is observed so that it is clean and free of wires completely.
The end-stage is where cleaning agents and water are used to clean the rubber thoroughly. Then the rubber is sent to rubber factories where it can be used as a raw material.
There are some brands like Comforser Tyres who specialise in manufacturing recycled tyres and it is also quite affordable and durable. So why not try recycled tyres the next time you need to buy a new set for your car?
