In 2017 Longlevens RFC set up a mixed ability rugby team. Mixed ability takes an innovative approach to break down barriers as many people still face significant barriers to participating in mainstream sports through, age, gender, disability, background, size or the fear of not being good enough.
To help provide a playing structure for everyone in the community. Safe to say it has been a complete success. In the first season we had 3 games and a squad base of 25 players. Taking part in various touch tournaments in Gloucestershire over that summer we raised the awareness of MAR within the county. This culminated in a player base of 45 players this season playing 16 games across England and Wales including Manchester, Surrey,Cardiff and Llanelli. With the team getting stronger we started a youth programme of going into SEN schools in Gloucestershire where we now teach over 144 children per week. We have now been recognised on a local and national level.

Next step to making this the premier club in the south west for Mixed ability rugby and in turn the most inclusive team in Gloucestershire. We have now been accredited to International mixed ability standard and only the 4th club in Europe to achieve this. This being said we have now been invited to the MA rugby's world cup in Ireland representing the south west and England. We will be playing countrys such as New Zealand,Fiji, Argentina, Canada and European teams France, Spain, Italy, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. As you can imagine we are massively excited but planning and raising funds are very difficult for 45 people for 9 days. Roughly needing 18k we started our fundraising campaign last weekend.
