I've raised £2000 to produce essential PPE in Glasgow, for use in the COVID-19 EMERGENCY!

We are working together as a collective of businesses and organisations to produce essential PPE (personal protective equipment) during the COVID-19 crisis for our health & care workers on the frontline in Glasgow and surrounding areas.
As cases of COVID-19 increase, the demand for PPE increases. We are aware that many are struggling to access essential PPE so we have decided to produce our own face shields to help during this crisis!
We are fundraising, with an initial goal of £2000, to buy the right materials and start production as soon as possible. Designed by our team, the face shields are made to be completely reusable, durable, lightweight, and comfortable for our health & care workers on the frontline.
It only costs 50p in material to produce a full face shield so every and any size of donation will make a huge difference! The more material we can purchase, the more vital and essential PPE we can make to keep our health & care heroes protected and safe!
The face shields are extremely quick to produce using a laser cutter, only taking 2 minutes to produce a full headband!
Any additional PPE created will be passed on to other organisations that need and can use it. This will include hospitals outside the Glasgow area as well as more healthcare providers.
If any additional donations are left unspent on material, this will be donated to the NHS Charities Together.
Everyone involved is donating their time and skills, so 100% of the funds raised will go towards buying material to help make essential and vital PPE for our health and care working heroes!
We were initially fundraising for material to donate to the hospital as they were producing PPE and we were working with them to help produce PPE. However, the hospitals were no longer able to accept material donations and are still struggling to access PPE so we have decided to continue to help in any way we can.
We have volunteered because we want to help in a time of national need. We are not formally affiliated with the NHS. However, we are working in close consultation with the NHS in Glasgow to ensure that everything we produce meets all required standards.
This work is being led by:
• THIS IS MAKERS – designing the face shield and using their laser cutting equipment to produce key parts as well as assembly and distribution of the face shields
With help and support from:
• University of Strathclyde Motorsport (Student Society) – helping with fundraising, assembly & distribution of the face shields as well as sourcing and buying of material
• Paisley YMCA – using their laser cutting equipment to produce key parts as well as helping with assembly and distribution of the face shields
• BeYonder – helping with sourcing and buying of material as well as fundraising support. BeYonder has also generously donated all of the elastic for this initiative.
