Last year my sister phoned me with the devastating news that one of the pupils in her class at Somerville Primary School on the Wirral had relapsed with leukaemia. This sent a massive shock through my system. Ellie-Mai Bradley was 4years old at the time!
In 2014 Ellie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, she has battled for the past 2 years with countless trips to theatre, chemotherapy cycles and ongoing side affects. On the 24th November 2016, it was confirmed that Ellie had relapsed and is now back at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital undergoing more chemotherapy and awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Ellie-Mai has just spent the entire Christmas period in hospital undergoing treatment. Her Mum and Dad have recently had to leave their jobs in order to travel to and from Alder Hey each day. They also have the additional needs of Ellie's little 1 year old sister to address and are currently spending a large amount of time apart. This fundraiser will help provide the funds for Ellie and her family to have some much needed time together when Ellie has completed her treatment. She is now unable to fly so the family are hoping to take Ellie away as much as possible within the UK.
I have always loved the outdoors and had a passion for running. I have competed in many marathons and half marathons but last year competed in the Hope 24 managing to run 50 miles in 24hours. This year with the added drive and focus of Ellie's courage and fight I plan to beat last years figure, and help rase some valuable funds to help Ellie and her family create some magical memories she will treasure when she is fit and well.
