Story

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the sad news that our very special friend, Jon Paul, passed away yesterday on Reunion Island. He slipped away peacefully with his rock and best pal, Craig, by his side.

Jon Paul fought so hard against this awful illness for nine long months and now he’s at peace. He was a legend that will live on forever in our memories and in our hearts.

We were so close to getting JP home. A medical repatriation service had been organised to fly him home on Saturday before his health rapidly deteriorated. Unfortunately, this was a non refundable cost which is almost covered by your kind donations so far and as such, we no longer need any further donations.

Jon Paul and all his loved ones have been completely overwhelmed and touched by the generosity and support of everyone and cannot thank you all enough.

Thankfully, the insurance company have now agreed to bring JP home for that Scottish send off he deserves. Thanks again for helping us give JP the best chance of getting home.

......................................................................................

Our very special friend, Jon Paul, was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable bowel cancer earlier this year. After enduring many months of intense chemotherapy, he and his fiancé, Craig, embarked on a trip of a lifetime to South Africa, Madagascar and the Seychelles to celebrate Jon Paul completing chemo and their engagement in January.

Devastatingly, Jon Paul’s health has taken a turn for the worse and he has become extremely unwell whilst he is away. After two weeks of being stuck in horrendous conditions within an unsanitised medical facility in Nosey Be (Madagascar),Jon Paul was air ambulanced to the island of Reunion where the health care system thankfully provides a more sufficient standard of care and treatment.

Unfortunately, recent scans reveal the cancer has returned and Jon Paul is not medically fit to fly home in a commercial airline. Consequently, Jon Paul and Craig are now stranded on a small island off Madagascar with one air ambulance bill, evergrowing treatment costs, the need for a further air ambulance home and the insurance company refusing to pay out.

Jon Paul is an amazing 38 year old guy, who has always been, and continues to be, an inspiration to so many people. His loyal, strong, fun, humble, determined and caring character is why we all love him and need him home where he belongs.

Jon Paul’s huge heart has led him to live a life helping others. He has impacted on so many people’s lives, both personally, and professionally through his 10 years working with children and families. We’re desperate to get Jon Paul home to receive the best treatment possible. He’s one of life’s giving people. Can you please help us give back to him?
