Story
On the 25th July a group from Portico will be taking on a 10km run in support of Ben Clarke. This group includes: Alex Clarke, Carly Jarvis, Modestas Povilitas, Victoria Jennings, Oliver Hiner, Ewa Dabydoyal, Amy Gentles-Mickie, Matt Urbaniak, Greg Bodnar, Cat Goble, Amanda Baber, Pamela Llubran and Kelly Evans.
Notably missing from this group is Paul Jackson, our MD. Paul has committed to joining the run if we raise 50% of the target by 18th July. If that isn't motivation enough to donate, then take a moment to read Ben's story below:
Last year, Ben was referred to a Paediatrician due to his propensity for falling over and hitting his head. Little did we know that this would be a life changing appointment.
Ben has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne MD is one of the most common fatal genetic disorders to affect children (mostly boys) around the world. It is a devastating, progressive and currently incurable muscle-wasting disease. The avergae life expectancy for a child with DMD is currently early 20s.
This also means that Ben has never had the strength or balance to enable him to ride a bike, an experience every child should have. The only solution is to get him a customised trike.
We are going to run/walk/crawl 10k to raise the funds needed to Help get Ben on his Trike and more....
