.33 miles - GERARD BASSET TRAVEL BURSARY FUNDRAISER
On the 12th November I will be running 33 miles in aid of the Gerard Basset Travel Bursary fund. This is only a small part in giving back ....especially as Gerard Basset gave so much and to so many of us who are enjoying wine careers in the U.K. and around the world today.
33 as Gerard Basset's lucky number; this was his candidate number that he drew when he won the ASI World Champion Sommelier title in 2010, hence why it felt very appropriate to run this distance and especially as it was a length from my own bar, L'Atelier in Brighton, to a great Wine Estate of Roebuck.
My big challenge is to complete this journey as only 6 years ago I was told that I will never be able to run again due to my back problem. I have however managed to bridge this, enjoy running again and I am proud to be able to do this in Gerard's name on the 12th November 2021.

Steve was one of Gerard’s early proteges and they shared a warm and close friendship and bond. Gerard would be so proud of all that Steve has achieved and the fantastic businessman he has become. Romane and I are so pleased to continue to share that friendship and we are so appreciative of Steve’s offer to run 33 miles in honour of Gerard and his legacy. Thank you Steve.
