Story

On 7th August ex naval serviceman Ashley Russell was admitted to Royal Preston hospital in readiness for a fast track MRI scan as advised by his optician who had discovered shadowing behind his eyes. By the 9th of August Ashley was told that a large cancerous mass had been discovered on his brain known as Glioma. Ashley was dealt more bad news that the tumour had wrapped itself around vital blood vessels and for any operation to be effective 95% would need to be removed but this would also take his ability to see, speak and move along with the use of chemo and radiotherapy. Ashley has been told leaving the mass he may live 5yrs +. His family believe in modern medicine and need to raise funds in trying anything possible that could help. Firstly is the use of stem cells from his neice/nephew umbilical cord who will be arriving in 7wks time and implanted into Ashley to mould themselves to his immune system and hopefully help heal the mass, which has been proven successful on a little girl in Spain recently. In order to do this we need to raise money for a specialist team to collect and courier the stem cells back to a laboratory in Manchester for storage in readiness to use. We feel this is a golden opportunity to try something new that is not readily available every day. This page will be left open in continuation of raising funds to send Ashley abroad if necessary.
