Story

In 2018, local artist, acclaimed sculptor and musician Dominic Grant began an incredible life-size sculpture of King George IV to celebrate the 200th Royal anniversary of Ramsgate Harbour, the only Royal Harbour in Great Britain.

Dominic donated his time creating this magnificent statue as a labour of love, for the town he grew to love, which will overlook the harbour to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Tragically Dominic did not live to see his stunning creation finished and installed, though bar a few final touches, the clay was completed ready for moulding.

Dominic passed away suddenly from an aneurysm in November 2020, leaving his family, friends and an army of fans devastated. But knowing his love of his art and his passion of this statue, his family have continued to realise his dream. His wife Julie, children Luke, Sophie and Sophie’s artist boyfriend Matt, along with Dominic’s new baby Grandson Stanley, lovingly completed the sculpture.

We need your help to raise £60,000 to fund the bronze casting, site groundworks, plinth and the statue’s many journeys to complete the works, in order that this incredible piece of artwork can be proudly displayed in its rightful place overlooking the Royal Harbour.

Actress and resident of Ramsgate - Brenda Blethyn, has pledged a generous donation & her support to ensure her love of Dominic’s work and her home town has the recognition it deserves.

Please take a moment to watch this video of Dominic’s family honouring his dream and preparing the statue to be handed over for completion.

Please donate whatever you possibly can.

Thank you so much
