Story
I am running 12 Half Marathons in 12 Months to help St John the Baptist Primary School raise money for internal building works. The school has grown and grown over the years and accommodating all of the children, staff and projects has become increasingly challenging. As anyone who has visited the school will know they have developed some innovative ways to meet this need. The next solution involves internal works in which they plan to turn their 1970's vintage library area into two modern and vibrant learning spaces.
I started running with Notts Women's runners two years ago. At that time I couldn't run for 15 seconds without feeling like I needed immediate medical assistance. Now I can run 5k in around 29 minutes, 10k in just over an hour and 10 miles in around 1 hour 50 minutes. I have even had a crack at a few half marathons. I am not the fastest ever but pretty good considering I used to be overweight, clearly unfit and had no desire to do anything about it! I owe this change to an amazing group of women within in my running group who have encouraged me, increased my confidence and made me feel like I can achieve anything. They made me believe that I can make this challenge happen.
I won't lie- I eat too much chocolate and drink too much wine so some people that know me might think it is absolutely ridiculous that I may want to do a challenge like this. To be honest I have never really had the desire to push myself at anything from school through to my adult life. I do know one thing for sure though and that is I love my two children and I love their school. St John's the Baptist Primary School, Colwick is a quiet but friendly school that gives endless opportunities to their pupils. The staff are amazing and welcoming and although my son has only been at the school for a few weeks, he has thoroughly enjoyed every minute. I feel extremely lucky that he goes to this school and I am hoping that my daughter will be able to share these experiences too once she is at school age.
2018 is going to be a huge push for me. The idea of 12 half marathons over 12 months absolutely petrifies me but helping the school is urging me to make this happen. I want to give every child (including my own) the best opportunities available during their time at St John's.
Colwick is an amazing community and I have no doubt it will support me in making this happen. I have only been living here since 2014 but I am proud to be part of it and want to do as much as I can whilst I am here. Please support me in my challenge in trying to help the School achieve their target. This is something that every single child will benefit from and even a few pounds contribution will help make this happen.
I will be starting my challenge with a bang on the 1st January with a very challenging 15 mile route around Whitby. Afterwards I will be travelling to London, Leicester, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Humber Bridge, Dublin, Newcastle and Cardiff. I will be ending the year by running the Monsal Half in Derbyshire in November. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL MY HALF MARATHONS AND TRIPS ARE COMPLETELY SELF FUNDED AND 100% OF DONATIONS WILL GO TO ST JOHN THE BAPTIST PRIMARY SCHOOL.
I will be updating everyone with my progress on Facebook and Twitter (links to follow). Please do not hesitate to contact me or the School if you want to ask any questions or put forward any comments about this fundraising page.

6 years agoOn the September the 9th I ran my 10th half at the Great North Run. What an amazing atmosphere, I got to see loads of celebs and of course Mo Farah. It was a hot day so running conditions were tough but I enjoyed every second of It. I have been having issues with my knee but I managed to get through the course just under 2 hours 30 mins which I was really pleased with. Number 11 is in Cardiff on October 7th. Only 2 left!!!

6 years agoThis weekend I travelled all the way to Dublin for number 9 half marathon. The atmosphere was amazing and I really enjoyed the route despite it being VERY hilly. My legs are feeling it today but happy I finished it. So far including offline fundraising we are at £2,700!! 😁

7 years agoThis weekend I ran the Conti 24 hour thunder run with 4 friends. This involved running as a relay team (6 mile laps over a 24 hour period). Without a doubt this has been my most challenging run yet both mentally and physically! I ran 3 loops in total after which I to pull out after due to the pain in my feet. My final loop was at 2am which involved running through the pitch black woods which was certainly an interesting experience. We managed to run 18 miles each and we all did it on 2 hours sleep.
