Story
Myself and Michelle (Wife) complete the Great North Run every year to raise money for charity or good causes. This year we have committed to completing a trilogy of races in September 2024 which include :- Middlesbrough 10k Run - Sept 1st 2024 Great North Run - 8th Sep 2024 Redcar 10k Run - 22nd Sep 2024
We have targeted £1000 which will be split evenly between the Great North Air Ambulance and a more local cause which is support raising money for Owen to achieve £10,000 to have a purpose built sensory room for his needs. Below is a bit of insights to why we are supporting :-
Every year we support the Great North Air Ambulance, which is a fantastic charity that has a special place in our hearts. This is very personal to ourselves and a lot of people in East Middlesbrough due to amazing work they done when attended the scene of incident to Mason Wright 19th June 2021. Nicola Wright, Mason's mam has continued to fundraise to support GNAA since then supported by our community and to date has raised about £27,000 which is an amazing achievement from Nicola and all who have supported to date.
Raising £10,000 for Owens sensory Room Owen has a condition called ( PMD) pelizaeus- merzdacher disease he was born with his. This has affected Owen mobility and is unable to walk, sit up in bed or move his limbs.
in 2022 he became really poorly and was put into a coma by doctors, his parents were told Owen was not going to make it as they lost his life 3 times.Owen amazed everyone and woke 3 weeks later but he was not out the woods yet, Owen had to have a tracheostomy fitted and a feeding tube.Owen is also vented on a night and sometimes during the day. When Owen is unwell requires regular suctioning and tracky suctions.
0wen has gone from loving to eat food and drinking normally to being peg fed through a feeding tube 20 hours of the day.Owen loved to go swimming as it relaxed his joints unfortunately due to tracky he is unable to do this anymore.Owen left school in July 2024 as he is 19 years of age, mam has tried to source daycentres and been to view multiple centres but unfortunately due to Owens complex disability he is unable to attend.
Owen has trained member of staff with him at all times and a nurse who is willing to train day centre staff for free but still keeps getting refused a place.
Owens mental health and emotional well being has been badly effected by this, he says he does not want to be here anymore as school was his happy place and his bit of independence he had and interacting with other young adults with similar disabilities. People and supporters are now trying to raise £10,000 to make Owens life abit easier and happier. we are looking to build a place in his garden where is he able to invite his friends over to socialise.we are looking to put sensory, gaming and tv equipment in their also a mobile hoist and a water bed for repositionable changes which Owen requires.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, any donation would be greatly appreciated
