Story
As a resident of Fajara and Bakoteh, my beloved nation in the 21st century, is still suffering from chronic waste management problems. Imagine waking up every morning and smelling the most foul and distasteful stench of human waste, animal carcasses, burnt plastic....I could go on.
I would like your assistance to continue educating The Gambia concerning the current toxic state of the country’s waste disposal situation. The WasteAid UK conference will provide this platform to introduce a simple British technological solution: the Mobile Recycling Facility (MRF). The MRF is a material recycling utility housed in a 20ft container. It can be easily delivered to waste disposal sites, fully fitted and wired for immediate use. Double doors on the larger sides allow full access to the container and act as a secure lock up for the equipment. They can situated without the need for expensive building on foundations and as the name implies they can be moved as required. Typical waste that can be recycled by the MRF include paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, drinks cans, steel drums, drink cartons, food cans, glass bottles, plastic sheeting and clothing. Different locations will require different waste requirements. The mobile MRF concept is built around containerisation and incineration. The units burn at 850 degrees in the first chamber, 1000 degrees in the after burner chamber with a 2-second residence time to burn off the dioxins. These can burn up to 250kg per hour on a diesel feed. All of this movable and ready to be used in 6-8 hours from delivery.
With our engineering expertise we want to implement a long term solution to tackle this waste. We are trying to create jobs by adding value to the materials and developing public/private sector partnerships. This means people do not have to rely on government solutions and take responsibilities.
