Story

Today, you only need to scroll online to view some of the desperate lengths doctors and nurses are going in order to protect themselves. They have been left without any PPE, increasing the risk of transmission to not just themselves, but other patients and members of their community as they commute.

Help us in raising £15,000 to donate protective gear to UK hospitals. Be it £1 or £100, every penny will make a massive impact for those hereos battling coronavirus.

Our aim is to be completely transparent throughout this process. Our promise to you is:

1. 100% donations will be converted into PPE i.e. FFP2 masks, visors

2. Delivered to UK hospitals to those directly on the frontline

3. Supply from overseas that is FDA approved and NHS compliant

In trying to save one life, we're comprising the lives of many. Remember, despite having inadequate PPE, staff are working over 70 hours a week, to help save those criticall ill, those who could be any one of our family members.

All staff (doctors, nurses, cleaners) need to wear PPE. This should consist of: tight-fitting face mask , visor , goggles , extra gown and gloves. We are starting with procuring FFP2 masks and if we raise above our target, will look to supply other types of protective gear.

On top of those already in the NHS, 12,000 former NHS workers, 5,500 final year medics, along with 18,7000 final year nurses will soon move to the frontline. Contact with bodily fluids in ICU is inevitable and this means front-line staff are constantly at risk of being infected with COVID-19. NHS is quickly running out of PPE, putting patients, staff and their families at risk.

With over 25,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and nearly 2,000 deaths in the United Kingdom, we must come together to support our healthcare system and reduce the risk of transmission.

Help the nation. Donate today.

Doctors and nurses and other healthcare professionals want to do the best in this pandemic and we want to look after our patients and support people who are ill but not having the correct or the best protective gear puts us and patients at risk. It's very disheartening when you hear of colleagues talking about the way that they feel they are like cannon fodder, sent out to die." - Dr Frances Mair

We're fighting an invisible enemy, blindfolded, with both hands tied behind our backs and healthcare workers are at grave risk - Dr Nishant Joshi, A&E at Luton and Dunstable General Hospital

We're underprepared, under-protected and under-resourced. A recipe for disaster - GP from Somerset

There are limits to the risks to which doctors, indeed all healthcare workers, can reasonably be expected to expose themselves to.

Frontline staff must have the proper personal protective equipment if they are treating patients with Covid-19 or suspected to have Covid-19. We are hearing of staff trying to buy masks from DIY stores in desperation because they are not being provided with it by their employers. This is totally unacceptable; healthcare workers should not, and do not, have to expose themselves to high-risk situations without having adequate PPE - Dr Chaand Nagpaul, BMA council chair
