Story

Happy New Year Everyone! Thank you very much to everybody who has donated to me over the last 9 months that I've been in Ukraine. I've gone through an insane amount of money. My life savings and your donations are the only reason why I can continue doing the work I'm doing, which I think is very valuable and obviously so do you.

I also want to share with you a citation I received from the Ukainian Government. This honour extends to people like you who care about our fellow human beings. All the best to you in 2023. Daniel

Have you been looking at the state of the world today and asked yourself "What can I do to help? What can one person do?"

Let me introduce you to my husband, Daniel.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Daniel left our peaceful home in Yukon, Canada to do whatever he could for Ukraine and its people.

He continues his mission in Ukraine by evacuating civilians who remain in Donbas and newly de-occupied areas of Luhansk, taking them from some of the worst places in Ukraine, to outside of the range of artillery, for them to be moved further west and away from the hell they have lived in in for the last 8 months.

In September, with the help of funds from family and friends, Daniel donated his van to a Ukrainian man, also doing evacuations, and bought a 4 x 4 Toyota Land Cruiser, off-road tires, stretchers, medical supplies, tools and many other things necessary for his work. He specifically bought the Land Cruiser he to be able to put two people on stretchers in the back.

Daniel is working with volunteers from Ukraine and other countries who have other vans and vehicles that can transport people. These vehicles are inadequate for the terrible roads though, and the value of the Land Cruiser is that it can shuttle people to vehicles on better roads.

In a short period of time, Daniel and volunteers have evacuated hundreds of people who have been living in basements and root cellars under regular shelling. Thousands more people are living under these conditions without running water, power, heat or medical attention. There is no help for them from larger national or international organizations because the region is too dangerous for these organizations to send their workers or doctors. They must make it to safe areas to receive further assistance. Primarily, volunteers like Daniel bring people from the worst places to safer places where the bigger organisations take care of them from there.

100% of this fundraiser will go to fuel and upkeep of the Land Cruiser. Eventually this vehicle will be beyond repair and Daniel will have to replace it and maintain it to continue his work. Daniel's family is supporting his personal expenses.

Many thanks in advance from the bottom of our hearts. Daniel and Christine.
