There are many pupils who will require additional support needs throughout their time in school. Bankhead Primary are trying to establish a Nurture Base for pupils to give them the additional support they may need, when they need it.
The support can be required for various reasons from social/emotional difficulties, problems at home, bullying, behavioural difficulties, being a young carer, sensory impairment.
There are bases for these additional support needs but the closest for our community is in Hamilton and not always practical for children to attend.
If there were additional resources available a base could be created at Bankhead for pupils in the school to give them the support they need without disrupting any other routines.

Funding given by the local authority was very minimal due to budgets and this has already been used to provide specialist training for a couple of teachers within the school.

To ensure the success of this base we are fundraising for supplies to make sure it has a comfortable and warming environment. The supplies we need vary from screening boards, sofas, rugs, kitchen equipment to educational and developmental toys. With the support of parents from the school and the local community we are trying to get this base set up as soon as possible so the children that already need these facilities can put them to good use.
