Story
The Friends of Oxleas Woodlands were sad to find that the roses in the historic rose gardens in Castle Wood had been removed, leaving the much loved area looking bare and covered in weeds.
Many visitors to the woods have fond memories of the beautiful rose garden, which marks the site of the demolished Castlewood House (near Severndroog Castle). The gardens have long provided a tranquil and open space in the heart of the ancient woodland.
The volunteers that form The Friends of Oxleas Woodlands are determined to restore this area back to its former beauty, drawing on the original planting scheme. To be able to do this, we will need to purchase 265 roses alongside an informative interpretation board, which includes information about the varieties of roses planted, the history of the woods, the Friends of Oxleas Woodlands and the names of donors.
There are many ways in which you can help us to achieve this by:
1) Donating any amount of money, which will be greatly appreciated. Your money will go directly towards the restoration.
2) Donating £15 to sponsor a rose. If you want the donor (or other) name to be included on the interpretation board please let us know by contacting us on the email address below.
3) Joining up as a member of the Friends of Oxleas Woodlands. Please see our website below for more info.
4) Volunteering at the regular gardening sessions. E mail us so that we can keep you updated with dates and times.
