Freedom for Öcalan - The Time has Come!
This year, 2019 Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdish political leader, will have been imprisoned by the Turkish state for 20 years and will be 70 years old. He has been held in the most inhumane conditions of solitary confinement and been denied access to his lawyers and family for many years.
Öcalan is an inspiration for the struggle for Kurdish freedom and has written extensively about how to bring peace, democracy, tolerance and human rights to Turkey and the wider Middle East.
An international campaign has been launched to build pressure and demand his freedom so that he can play his rightful role in bringing peace to the region. This campaign is fully supported by the British trade union centre the TUC, as well as major individual unions including UNITE, GMB, CWU, EIS, NEU, FBU, ASLEF, TSSA, PCS, GFTU, USDAW, RMT, BFAWU and the labour law firm Thompson's Solicitors.
We implore everyone to get behind our campaign. Öcalan’s freedom is, as trade unionists and internationalists, our freedom as well.
