Story

Steve tragically passed away in February this year. Steve is greatly missed by all, he was not only a long serving colleague at Salford City Council, but a good friend. Steve was such a great guy, his dry wit, passion for motorsport, particularly BMW's (2 wheels and 4), Formula 1, Rugby Leauge and Football will be long lasting memories.

Steve’s death will not go unmarked, having had a significant impact on our lives and really highlighting the need to increase our awareness of those in need of support around us, even if, like Steve, they seemed just fine.

As some may be aware, immediately before his untimely death, Steve was due to attend the Offload programme, run by Salford Reds Foundation. Offload is a mental fitness programme which has been tailored and adapted to engage and support men. It focuses on building mental fitness, helping men to make ground and take control. We are also working together building Official School Partnerships with Salford Red Devils giving local children unique opportunities. This is an extremely important cause and one we want to offer our support to in Steve’s memory.

In honour of Steve, husband and wife Joe and Johanna Costello have taken the bold decision to run their first ever marathon, the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 10th October 2021!

A significant undertaking, and one we all believe deserves some generous support in honour of Steve, to raise awareness of such tragic losses and help raise some funds for Salford Reds Foundation to drive mental fitness and raise awareness of those who are not ‘just fine’.

We are now in the last week of our 20 week training plan! We both successfully completed the YNYS MON, Anglesey Half Marathon on 5th September, our first event! Training has had it's ups and downs with most recent hurdle being a house full of Covid 19, but we are now firmly back on track! We never anticipated what a commitment this would be, but we are close to race day now!

If you did or didn’t know Steve please spare a thought for those like him, those who your sponsorship money could go to help, when they need it most.

Motivation and time management has been so difficult but we are now in the final week of training, and we hope your support of our sponsorship campaign can spur us on. We have been overwhelmed by the support so far and have managed to stretch are target a couple of times now. With the big scary day now in sight your donations will really spur us on over the last few DAYS of training! Let's do Steve proud!

Please follow our training progress on Strava, kudos and words of encouragement all well received!!

Please give generously and thanks so much for your support!
