On Wednesday 12th August 2020 Caleb suffered a cardiac arrest at home at just 9 weeks old, he was transferred from Cardiff to Bristol’s paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) where Caleb was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and while there developed heart block. During surgery he slipped into SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) and had to be shocked to reset his little heart. After 12 weeks Caleb, was discharged so he could carry on the recovery at home.

In February Caleb was back in intensive care. After doing so well at home his pacemaker decided to completely stop working. As he is so reliant on this, his poor little heart was struggling to beat and was slowing down. He was back in theatre for more surgery and was again ventilated. After another long month Caleb was finally discharged again and allowed to return home.

At the beginning of June, just before his 1st birthday, Caleb was taken ill again and was moved to cardiac intensive care at Great Ormond Street hospital, London. Caleb needs major open heart surgery to fit a ventricular assist device (VAD) which takes over the pumping of his heart. Unfortunately this means he will not be allowed to leave hospital until he gets a heart transplant. This will take months, potentially years. Caleb can't be put on the transplant list until he has a different surgery to determine if he needs a heart or heart and lung transplant but he is currently too unwell for this surgery.

This is an extremely emotional time for Jamie and Jenna who have had to give up their jobs to move to London to be at their youngest sons bedside, while their other children remain over 300 miles away. As you can imagine, the cost of living in London, the need to bring their other son to them, and now without an income, money is extremely low. Jamie and Jenna are so grateful for the generousity and help they recieved when Caleb was poorly the first time but are now desperately in need of help again.
