    Story

Kenya is unfortunately suffering with extreme poverty, and children are particularly vulnerable to this situation – so imagine what is being an orphaned child in Kenya...

Their only hope is education, the only way to learn skills and to be able to create themselves a future.

Felix was born and raised near Mombasa in Kenya. He has been living in the UK for several years, and every year he sends tones of material (clothes, books, computers, etc.) back to his hometown – with the help of the local community in Oxford.

With the help of volunteers, etc. he managed to build a school for orphaned children in his hometown – his cousin being the director of the school, and his sister being one of the volunteering teachers. The school does not have enough equipment, it is not big enough yet, but it will get there!

However, it is still very tough in the villages, particularly regarding basic needs like electricity.

More often than not there is no access to electricity, and when connected to the grid, power cuts are frequent – but what is even worse, the cost of electricity is roughly 5 times more expensive than in the UK. With average net salary of teachers being 50 pounds a month, it is quite obvious that not many can afford electricity...

Many children are actually studying under kerosene lights – which are both expensive and dangerous for their health – and this must be stopped...

So this year, in addition to a 20-ft container full of material, we would like to bring solar energy and finally bring electricity to the school and the local community – to REALLY make a difference to the education of children and the quality of life of the local community.

We have located very cheap, used solar panels, batteries, etc. and we need your help to raise some funds to buy as many as possible and ship them to Mombasa - in addition to donated clothes, electrical equipment, etc.

Help us to make a difference!

We have already received the 1st set of solar panels in our storage in Oxford - and we have just collected the solar panels donated by JOJU SOLAR -- and also the bank of batteries (picture below) with our van! Thank you for your support!

Great news! We got in touch with Oxford University renewables lecturer Dr Chris Jardine and founder of JOJU solar - and they are collaborating with us with their technical expertise and donation of solar panels! We should receive the initial set of solar panels on Monday, which will complete all the components for the initial installation to provide electricity to our school in Kenya!
