Story
Based in Nairobi Kenya, Gertrude's Children's Hospital was founded in 1947. It currently has 100 beds and 16 outpatient centers offering a range of specialized services to children, including cancer.
In 2010, the hospital established Gertrude's Hospital Foundation, a charity that provides quality healthcare to the needy including vulnerable children who are located in hard-to-reach areas and to children’s homes in various parts of the country through several outreach programs. https://www.gerties.org/children-hospital-foundation/
I visited the hospital in February 2023 and heard about the Annual Charity Cancer Walk that raises funds to support early diagnosis and treatment for children from poor communities suffering from cancer. All the funds raised from this event go towards covering the cost of treatment and care for these vulnerable children.
When I got back to work the following week, I asked my colleagues if they wanted to join me in the fundraising walk and now the entire organisation of Wilton Park is coming together to support Gertrude's and the Charity Walk.
Wilton Park will be walking together on Sunday 21 May at it's base in Sussex, England. Please come and join us. https://www.wiltonpark.org.uk/

2 years agoThank you so much to the 30 walkers who joined us on Sunday. Between us, we walked 150km! The page will remain open until 31 May - we are hoping to reach a target of £2000....we really believe we can do it. Thank you once again for your support in raising funds for this worthy cause. You are amazing!

2 years agoThanks to everyone who has made a donation for our sponsored walk on Sunday. We exceeded our original fundraising target fairly soon after launch, thanks to everyone's generosity, and now can't wait to see just how much we might actually raise! The weather is looking fine for Sunday and we have over 20 walkers confirmed to take part, and dogs :) Thanks once again for supporting such a worthy cause. We'll keep in touch and hopefully see you there!

2 years agoOur thanks to everyone who has made a donation - we are on our way to reaching our fundraising target! Preparations are well underway for the walk on Sunday 21 May. The course is now set and will take walkers through the beautiful grounds of Wiston House. We are hoping for fine weather but if it does rain, we'll just keep walking! Gertrude's Hospital team in Nairobi is also very busy getting ready for their Annual Family Walk taking place on the same date. We will be walking simultaneously and hope to connect with them at some point.
