Story
Music has an incredible power to heal and inspire, which is why we need your help to fund our project. We recently brought together 32 young refugees from all over the world (countries included Sudan, Eritrea and Afghanistan) and formed a choir. The choir took part in a week-long music course where they learnt repertoire (which was specially composed for this choir), improved their English and received an Arts Award. At the end of the week they performed in a concert alongside a symphony orchestra at Leicester Cathedral.
The refugee choir was a new addition to the existing European Youth Music Week. This course has been in place for over 40 years and is a celebration of young musicians across the globe. Whilst on the music course, the young refugees interacted with other young refugees, young musicians from all over the world and were guided by professional musicians.
The course has now finished and it is clear to see that this course was hugely beneficial to the young refugees attending. We would like to make this an annual course and spend the year creating choirs across the country for existing and future participants.
Any money donated to our campaign will will go to ensuring we can keep this magic of mixing music, cultures and stories alive.
