Iʼve raised £2,535 to set up an ethnic food bank in Bedford. It is a community project to provide culturally appropriate food to the people in financial crisis.

Story
Help the 'Ethnic Food Bank' and save families from starving!
It was heartbreaking when I came to know that a patient was reluctant to access the food bank, as he couldn't get the ethnic food that his family could eat.
As a GP, I've spoken to colleagues in health, education, and social services, and it's become clear that many people from different ethnic backgrounds are struggling to access the food banks and they can't get the culturally appropriate food.
The cost of living is going up, lots of families are being pushed into poverty and food insecurity. The low income families and those on benefits are being hit especially hard. It's not fair that people from different ethnic backgrounds can't find the right food that they would normally eat. Even though mainstream food banks are doing great work, they don't get donations of the ethnic foods and some ethnic groups are unintentionally left behind.
As an ethnic food bank, we have gained a lot of support from local ethnic communities, and have 40 volunteers from different ethnic backgrounds to help this noble cause. We will soon get our charity registration status. We have representatives from all the communities. We've already secured premises at a community centre for distribution, which is free of cost.
We need your help to get started! We're raising funds to buy sorting and distribution crates, storage and moving equipment, basic furniture for the distribution center, and IT equipment for processing and recording information from the food vouchers. We also need to purchase initial food items for all ethnic communities for distribution, until we can completely rely on food donations like other food banks.
We pledge, that we won't have any paid employees and that all the funds will go for buying and distributing food. We'll provide detailed financial reports at our Annual General Meeting for transparency.
Please, join us in this mission to end hunger for good. Visit www.ethnicfoodbank.org for more information.

I regularly donate but I didn’t ever consider the need for ethnic ingredients until I saw today’s news article. It’s obvious in hindsight but I never considered it. Happy to support.

Respecting cultural food allows nourishment not of just body, but of soul and family. Struggling should not be punished. This is a wonderful initiative and I wish you all the best!
