Story
Horsforth Cenotaph honours the men from Horsforth who lost their lives in World War One. However the names of some men were missing. The Horsforth WW1 100 Years Project has raised money to have the missing names added to the cenotaph, so every Horsforth man who sacrificed his life will be honoured.
The money raised has also funded the set up of lighting at the cenotaph. I would like to raise money to cover the cost of the lighting for its first 2 years which would take us to the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War One in 2018.
Each year I take part in the Horsforth High School charity swim & this year to raise funds for this project I aim to swim 89 lengths in 45 minutes - 89 lengths to represent the 89 Horsforth men who lost their lives during WW1 in 1917 - this is the next commemoration the school is marking, following on from the events held this summer to mark 100 years since the Battle of the Somme.

8 years agoThank you to everyone who has donated to my page, my wrist fracture delayed my swim but has meant that as the page stayed open I have exceeded my initial target. My swim will take place on Tuesday 28th February at GSAL - Leeds Grammar School - who have generously waived the usual fee for pool hire. This page will close following the swim & it would be great to reach £1000 before then. So please consider donating, no matter how small & share my page with friends & family who have links to Horsforth. Thank you, Ethan.

8 years agoI was honoured to be invited to speak at the remembrance service at Horsforth Cenotaph today. I was also privileged to accept the new Community Cup on behalf of all the lads involved in 'The Pals' project & our teacher James Bovington, who had been instrumental in all the projects we have undertaken to remember the men of Horsforth who sacrificed their lives for us.

I am a year 11 student at Horsforth School & I am keen to support the Horsforth WW1 100 years project following my involvement in this years Battle of the Somme remembrance events. I acted in 'The Pals' & laid a wreath at the Menin Gate on behalf of the Horsforth community.
