Story
Sterilisation is the only way to stop the suffering. Abandoned by people who don't know about or can't afford to sterilise their cats, vulnerable kittens are often 'dumped' and left to die on a rubbish tip in the center of Azemmour. ERHAM's sterilisation programme aims to reduce the population to stop this heartbreaking crisis happening again and again.

In April 2019, 180 kittens 'dumped' over a 2 week period. We immediately went into action, organising a clean up day, laying a 3x3 meter concrete slab with a tiled feeding area, collected up all the kittens and gave them necessary medical treatments and also set up a daily cleaning and feeding programme. We homed many of the kittens, but many were sadly too sick to save.
In Azemmour, Morocco, (where I have a little house), there are simply too many cats. Most females suffer a constant cycle of reproduction and hunger. Kittens are born in the streets to malnourished mothers. Sadly, all too often, they lead short lives, dying alone from illness, starvation and dehydration. ERHAM - which in Arabic means 'take pity' - is a Moroccan based charity working to stop the suffering. We would like to hugely increase our sterilisation and treatment programme. Your donation will help us to do this - to put an end to this unnecessary suffering.

2 years agoJust wanted to say a big Christmas thank you to all our wonderful supporters who have donated and enable us to continue with our essential humane work. Recently I asked people if they could sponsor the sterilisation of a female cat....... 36 cats have been sterilised since then and hundreds of kittens have been saved from lives of suffering. Good work! I will post pics of the individual cats soon. Thanks again, and Happy Happy Christmas from all at ERHAM.

2 years agoBeing back in Azemmour after a long wait while my infected hand healed was amazing. It was wonderful to walk to the rubbish tip and be greeted by snipped eared old friends and lovely Rachida, but along with her, also far too many abandoned kittens. I realised I had to get tough with the locals who dump, and made strongly worded banners to hang there. I wrote the hard truth including that it is haram to harm animals. Sterilisation is so essential to stop the suffering. Can you sponsor a cat? (£45.00) We will send pics of the lucky recipient.
