Story

Hockey is one of the biggest team sports globally, sitting only behind football and basketball in terms of participation, and hockey is now beginning to capitalise on the commercial opportunities that exist in terms of the world stage tournaments. Nevertheless in some age groups, players and teams can face financial challenges in order to represent their country, as is the case in many sports.

England Masters Hockey has had tremendous success over recent years across all of its age groups, winning multiple World and European titles at IMHA (International Masters Hockey Association) sanctioned competitions across the globe from Europe to Australasia.

Our squad [ men’s 45s ] like all others are a “self-funded” operation, and whilst families and employers have been wonderfully understanding in terms of the time required, the financial burden to players and staff can be challenging and restrictive in both preparing and participating in International competition.

The England Men’s O45 side has enjoyed phenomenal success over the last couple of years with silver medals at both the 2016 World Cup in Australia and the 2017 Euros in the Netherlands. This year, however, we are determined to go one better. By the time we get to Barcelona in July we will be the best prepared Master’s squad ever to appear at an international tournament having undergone six months of rigorous preparation. However this commitment does come at a cost.

In order to lessen the financial burden on the players and concentrate on winning, the squad are looking for help with their funding.
