Story
July 2019
The ‘system’ has now recognised that Matt desperately needs intensive residential rehab to make up for how they let him down. The ‘system’ are paying for the best residential rehab there is. Slowly slowly it is making a difference. A little more strength, little more fluid movement and re-learning how to do some care for himself and spend positive time with his family.
Thank you to everyone that helped get him into Traumatic Brain Injury Rehab - we had to show the ‘system’ what he needed. We did. Thank you.
There are tough days ahead - Matt will not be able to care/contribute to his family as he would want. We, the Carter supporters are making sure the family we admire and love gets through to a new future.
May 2019 URGENT
Matt has been let down by scant community care - the brutal truth is that he has deteriorated under their regime and now urgently needs intensive residential rehab. £4,400 per week at STEPS, Sheffield.
On his trial visit they already had him walking properly and showed him how to start getting out of a chair. And, most importantly, he smiled and in the clearest voice for sometime, said, “I want to be able to look after myself and fire up the pizza oven and make pizza’s for my boys”
What can you do? Weekly, monthly donations? Pay for a week or part of one? Pay for an hour?
This is it - this is when Matt despite all the odds - gets to live the life he can.
DECEMBER 2019 everyone has THE Matt Carter in their hearts and thoughts. Matt fell off a ladder and has sustained a traumatic brain injury which has meant he has undergone the most extreme surgery. He was in critical care and now against the all the odds has made it into a specialist rehab hospital - we are taking it day by day. Wonderful friends and family asking what they can do - so many people already finding out how they can help by keeping things steady for Sue, Matt and their boys. Chilcare, driving, sitting with Matt, sleeping near the hospital, helping in Sue’s new business, catching up on Matt’s paperwork, washing, ironing, cooking and sending big hugs and holding Sue when she cries.
This is the start of a very long journey - and the truth is that we don’t know how long it will take.
Time is our friend - however during this time, running out of money to keep on top of the bills and living expenses while time takes it’s time will be devastating for the family and overwhelmingly worrying for Sue.
Matt was self employed and Sue’s new catering business is too new to make any profit. There are no big payouts due, no big company paying salaries and sickness. No fancy schemes in place that you get when you are working for someone else.
Lots of people have spoken to me about giving them a breathing space - during these first six months and more - making sure that those of us who can - get them covered - take away the money worry.
If you feel that too, please gift what you can - be bold - we have had many very large contributions of £1000 - from his friends and the people who respected his work who have enough money that they can choose to do a really good thing with their money in supporting the Carter family.
Some families don’t have spare - we’ve all felt that... BUT. Any contributions welcomed - it all adds up - kids too - fundraising too. Another thing you can do is share this page via facebook - there is a button - and also please copy the link ( button next to FB button) and send it to people who would want to help.
All of this is, really is a practical and much needed way of saying we are your supporters to the Carter Family - a way of saying, we love you Carter - We love you Sue - We love you Charlie and Billy. Come back to us Matt - and when you come back we can tell you how we looked after your family.

I am organising this on behalf of all of us that want to support the Carters financially. As we see the gifts roll in we will transfer the money from our personal account to Sue and Matt’s. We want to keep the fundraising page open for as long as it is needed - the difficult bit is that it only pays out when the page is closed!!! So, do not worry, Jim and I as well as contributing gifts will use our own money to keep the cash flowing - paying directly from our own bank account to Matt and Sue’s bank account whatever you gift on the just giving page - that way we are not waiting for the page to close before the Money gets to where it needs to be. The first £8000 has already arrived in Sue‘ account. Can you imagine the relief and warmth this gives her?
Anything you can give makes you a supporter -you can doate anonymously and choose not to show the amount too. You will get updates from me - and ideas about other practical things we might all do.
You can always call 07881 625088 if you want to chat.
Scroll to the bottom and you can leave ideas comments and extra words of support.
I Would really really love to hear from you if you have any questions/ thoughts or ideas and if I can help in anyway. Pick up the phone or text if you prefer.

For Matt Carter - Urgent
5 years agoHi All. Matt is doing well. So great to share a laugh with him. So wonderful that he is talking about HIS future plans. Matt’s accident was on the 6th December last year. What a year. The kindness and efforts of so many people is why he is still here, smiling and beginning to cause trouble in a style only Matt Carter can. Fantastic. Here’s to a better year ahead Matt.

For Matt Carter - Urgent
5 years agoSeptember 2019 Big News Matt is home from his residential intensive rehabilitation. He has worked hard, as have the team that worked with him! He is now much more mobile and chatty. He really wanted to go home and with three times a day outside support in place that has happened... his rehab is ongoing. The cheeky Carter we all know and love is back... which also means that he is a bit of a handful! Give him a call and when you visit, get him out of his chair and ask him if he has done his exercises! If you dare...

For Matt Carter - Urgent
6 years agoThank you so much to everyone who has supported - Matt has settled well into STEPS rehab in Sheffield. Under their intensive and encouraging care he is Slowly Slowly making small improvements - being able to move more - lift his head - build some strength. We worked together and showed the ‘system’ that Matt needed urgent rehab care to make up for what he lost when the ‘system’ let him down - the ‘system’ has now taken on the cost of his rehab for the next few months. We are where we are - tough times ahead - helped by your support.
