Story

15th July 2019

Jack was born prematurely and as a consequence of this he has suffered a brain injury called Periventricular Leukomalacia. The brain injury has left Jack with Level 4 spastic cerebral Palsy meaning he is forever going to face challenges during his lifetime that others of the same age will not. We have accepted this and will do everything we can to support Jack throughout his life.

We really want to take Jack for a two week intensive block therapy with Bobath therapists. This block therapy consists of a detailed assessment of Jack’s condition by a lead clinician followed by intensive therapy over a two week period. Based on the assessment, a team of specialist Bobath therapists will work with Jack via a combination of physio, occupational and speech & language therapists.

This Intensive therapy can result in a cumulative gain in skills for Jack and is recognised by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence). The NHS are currently unable to fund this so we have to raise the money ourselves.

This therapy is designed for children with cerebral palsy and it aims to optimise their potential and function, prevent and minimise secondary deformity and weakness, and advise on daily management. Bobath (Neurodevelopmental) Therapy emphasises observation and analysis of the client’s current functional skill performance and the identification of clear therapy goals. The aims of treatment are to work for better active participation and practice of relevant functional skills and to influence muscle tone and improve postural alignment by specific handling techniques.

Those who know Jack know how hard he really does try at everything he does and will know how far he has come already. We want to try everything possible to help support Jack on his cerebral palsy journey and after hours, days, weeks and months of researching we feel we have to give this a go.

Jack is already absolutely amazing to us and if we can help improve his muscle tone at all then it is definately worth a try. Our nearest centre is Watford and we need to raise around £5000 and would love to get it booked before he starts school next year. Any support in raising this would be highly appreciative so please feel free to donate and share Jack’ s story.
