This summer we are going to Tanzania for a month to teach orphans and young children who are less fortunate than us. We will be living and working with local communities.
We will be working in Tenguru Pre and Primary School, in a town called Arusha. Schools in Tanzania have an average ratio of one teacher to 53 pupils and international aid is faltering since the global recession. The quality of education in Tanzania is a growing cause for concern. This organsiation helps provide health and education for young children.
Over a third of people in Tanzania live below the national poverty line. Education is one of the essential skills for children to develop and is their doorway to a bright future. Tourism is big business in Tanzania, and so the ability to speak English dramatically increases the opportunities for young people to gain meaningful employment.
We aim to raise £500 each, and are organising school fundraisers such as cake sales, car washes and taking part in external events such as local fun runs and car boot sales.
