Story
Harrison Townsend Murray is my 8 year old great-great nephew and has recently been diagnosed with soft-tissue sarcoma (tumour) which is quite rare in young children. To shrink the tumour to a size which can be removed without extensively damaging his hip and pelvis, Harrison is undergoing chemotherapy every Wednesday for 24 weeks and he is doing this like a champion and always with a smile on his face.
He is receiving excellent care from the NHS at Sheffield Children's Hospital but he has also received fantastic support from the Headmaster and Staff of Spires Junior School where he is a pupil.
As a thank you to the school, his Grandparents (Margaret & Keith Murray) and his 2 great-great Aunties (Jane Bindoni and Elizabeth Poole) - and that is not a description, they really are that old, are going to climb Goat Fell on the island of Arran this September. They have tried before, twice being outwitted by the weather, but this time they have a week to get it done. Goat Fell is not a mountain, it is not a Munro but it is a 874 metre high Corbett which for a group of 4 people with a combined age of 257 years it will be a bit of a challenge especially on the old knees.
I appreciate that the past 18 months have been difficult emotionally and financially for many people but, any contributions would mean a great deal to Harrison and his family to be able to show their appreciation to Spires Junior School in Chesterfield.

3 years agoJust a quick update to all our contributors, the final total raised for Spire Junior School on behalf of Harrison, including cash donations, ended up at £1,250. Thank you all very much, you have all been incredibly kind and generous. As soon as Harrison is able to present the cheque to the Headmaster, I will post his photograph and a wee message from the star himself. Again, thank you very, very much. We appreciate each and every donation. xx

3 years agoWell today we completed the challenge and got to the summit of Goat Fell. It turned out to be a fine day with very little wind which made for a good climb. Harrison and all his family are delighted with the amount raised which is far more than we anticipated so we would like to thank each and every person for their kindness and generosity. And from the “oldies” who made the climb, we would like to thank you for your support to help us there. We only made it up so as not to disappoint you all.

3 years agoA big thank you to all who have donated! I’m on my way to Arran today and the other 3 “mountaineers” will join me on Saturday. We are dependent on the weather conditions to decide which day we will face Goat Fell but it will between 5-10 September so keep your fingers crossed for great weather - and I know that is asking a lot for Scotland’s variable climate but it’s worth a try 😃🤞. Will update (hopefully with triumphant photographs 😧) once we have done it. Again, a huge thank you to everyone for their generosity 👏👏👏👏👏👏
