Our school is very lucky to have its own swimming pool. Every Cromer Road child benefits from weekly swimming lessons which builds confidence in the water and improves fitness. The pool opened in March 1973 and was built thanks to the extraordinary fundraising efforts of parents, teachers and pupils. Forty-five years later, it’s not surprising that the pool building is now in need of repair and updating to ensure its future.

An appeal to raise the £200,000 to £250,000 needed for a complete refurbishment has been launched by the headteacher, Jude Stone, and fund raising will start with a sponsored swim after the Easter holidays. Every child will have the opportunity during their normal swimming lessons to swim as many widths as they can in 10 minutes. The class which raises the most money will win the prize of an extra fun swim!

We need £5,000 to refurbish the changing rooms; with £10,000 we could install new toilets, sinks and showers; and our overall goal is a complete renewal of the pool building with a replacement energy-efficient roof – at a total estimated cost of £200,000 to £250,000.
