Team Elijah’s Star are rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic in support of Action Medical Research.

They're rowing for babies born too soon, shining a spotlight on the impact premature birth has on babies and their families and to help fund more research that can save lives. The team have taken their name from baby Elijah, a premature but much-loved son and brother, who sadly lived for just 37 days.

10% of all births are premature and globally, it’s the biggest killer of children under 5. It’s too many. Far too many. Action Medical Research is committed to fighting for children’s lives, finding answers that can lead to medical breakthroughs for some of the toughest fights our children face.

We aim to shine a spotlight on premature birth to help save and change children’s lives through funding medical research. We believe that the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children can be beaten. Surprisingly medical research to help children is poorly funded in the UK.

Team Elijah’s Star are totally inspired by the passion and dedication shown by Action Medical Research in helping people that need it most and are honoured to be able to promote them by rowing the Atlantic.

Finally, and to be totally transparent, a small percentage of the money raised will go towards the cost of the boat and the safety equipment required to enable the team to make it to the start line. The team will then pick up the rest of the expenses therefore all monies raised above and beyond go directly to Action Medical Research. We have the charity's full support in our campaign and this financial strategy and Action have full and constant access to all expenditure.
