Story
In December 2016 at our 20 week scan, we found out that our precious unborn baby had a serious heart defect and that there was a significant chance he may not survive the pregnancy. We prayed lots for him and were surrounded by the love and support of our wonderful family, friends and church, but sadly in early February 2017 at 28 weeks, our baby's heart stopped beating and he went to be with Jesus.
We went into the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to deliver him and were cared for by the amazing staff on the Maternity Unit. We were looked after for the duration of our stay in the Heartsease room - a special room on Labour Ward where some stillborn babies are delivered and where parents can have precious time with their babies. The room is decorated nicely with wallpaper, pictures, sofas and cushions so that it doesn't feel too much like a hospital room.
Our lovely boy Samuel Josiah was delivered on 14th February (in theatre) and once I came out of Recovery, we spent some precious time with him in the Heartsease room. I stayed in the room for five days in all and the environment made a very difficult time slightly more manageable for us.
So, 10 years after my first (and only!) 10k run, I am running another 10k race at Killerton in September 2017 to raise money for continuing to equip and maintain the Heartsease room and for the RD&E to support bereaved parents in other ways.
I would love it if you wanted to sponsor me, however little or much you would like to; it is all enormously appreciated.
Thank you SO much
Elaine (and Jonathan) xxxxx

7 years ago...But most importantly, we have raised an AMAZING £1,660 (including offline donations) which will go directly to the RD&E maternity bereavement suite and to helping other bereaved parents. THANK YOU so so much for your incredible support - I never dreamed we would raise anywhere near this much and I am totally blown away by your kindness and generosity.
