Story
Swim With Conor for Down Syndrome Swimming Great Britain (DSS-GB)
Charity No: 1175333 Registered Address:7 Copthall Gardens TW1 4HH
Down Syndrome Swimming Great Britain (DSS-GB) is a volunteer led charity which enables children, young adults and adults with T21 or Mosaic Down syndrome to reach their potential as elite swimmers giving them the opportunity to compete at national and international level. DSS-GB aims to be the leading voice for aspiring swimmers with Down syndrome. DSS-GB provides resources for swimmers with Down syndrome to share specialist training, health and nutrition best practice and gain swimmer classification. DSS-GB is the leading force in identifying future swimming talent amongst those with Down syndrome within Great Britain. https://www.dss-gb.org
In October 2021, Conor Macauley-Conway, a member of David Lloyd, Epsom, swam with DSS-GB at the Down Syndrome European Swimming Championships in Ferrara, Italy, picking up two bronze medals. He is now training for the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships, being held in Portugal, in October 2022.
What is the significance of 21 ?
People with Down Syndrome are born with an extra chromosome which is a duplicate of Chromosome 21.
How can you support ?
You can support Conor’s challenge to raise 2000 GBP by making a donation using this page or ...
EVEN BETTER – make a contribution (10 GBP minimum) and swim with Conor for one of his weekend sessions. You don’t need to swim all 60 lengths, you might just want to swim 1 length, 10 lengths or simply walk some lengths. It’s entirely up to you.
To raise funds for DSS-GB, and to raise awareness about Down Syndrome and with the support of David Lloyd, Epsom, Conor will be embarking on an epic 21 day challenge. He will be swimming 1500m every day, for the first 21 days of March, with the last of his 21 swims taking place on the 21st March, World Down Syndrome Day. The distance he will swim is the equivalent of swimming the English Channel.
You can sign up to swim with Conor at David Lloyd Reception or e-mail David Lloyd at epsom@davidlloyd.co.uk
