Story

Early blood transfusion improves survival rates for trauma casualties who are in hemorrhagic shock (caused by severe blood loss). The use of whole blood per se is associated with improved survival. However, in some remote rural locations or during prolonged evacuation blood transfusion is not currently available to Ukrainian medics due to lack of equipment and training.

With the recent change in Ukrainian legislation regarding blood transfusion the spectrum of medical personnel allowed to carry out such procedures has broadened. Now is the time to act!

The goal of the project is to raise money for blood storage equipment and training sessions for medical personnel on how to use this equipment. The project will be carried out in cooperation with the Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center, in line with guidance from the Ministry of Health.

Your donations (subject to relevant checks) will be matched 1:1 by the Community Initiative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). So let's double our impact, your 5 GBP can become 10 GBP. Together we can achieve twice the impact!

There are two areas of action where the raised money will be directed to:

1. Training for medical personnel.

2. Equipment for blood storage and re-heating: freezers, warmers, and consumable units (needed to instantly heat cold stored blood to optimal temperatures for infusions).

The project aims to train medical personnel of one rural casualty collection point (stabilisation point) in a remote area of Ukraine where blood is not in use as well as to equip their facility and one ambulance vehicle with equipment needed to carry out 100-150 blood transfusions.
