“I wrote this song when sheltering a woman I knew whose bloodied face and missing teeth were evidence of domestic violence. I wanted to provide a sanctuary for her – but more than that I wished she could find a way to leave the relationship for her own safety and long-term happiness.
TRAIN is a song that celebrates the joy and power of walking away from an abusive, violent or controlling relationship. Instead of focusing on the sufferings of the past, the lyrics focus on the freedom of moving into a different future. It is difficult to ignore the manipulative pleading and fake - or even genuine - remorse of an abuser. TRAIN is a clarion call to decisiveness and the courage it takes to move on.
A song is not a solution to what can be a complex set of problems and entanglements, but it can give energy and encouragement, and be a reminder of the joy and zest for life and freedom that every woman deserves.”
