Iʼm raising £12,000 to Save Ryebank Fields
Don't have time to donate right now?
Story
We are a group of local people who are campaigning to save the re-wilded green space that is known as Ryebank Fields from development. We are in a Climate Crisis and we should NOT be building on any Green Space.
Ryebank Fields is a 12 acre patch of open green space o the border of Chorlton and Stretford in South Manchester. It was gifted by Manchester City Council to Manchester Polytechnic (now (Manchester Metropolitan University) for use as playing fields. The University abandoned the fields in 1996, since when the land has rewilded itself into a mosaic of natural habitats. It is a wonderful green area, accessible to all and is a well used and loved community asset. The fields are home to over 1400 trees, countless birds, bats, mammals and insects, as well as providing food and shelter for pollinators. The fields also act as a carbon sink and natural floodplain and combat air pollution in this densely populated urban area, which is bordered by a local school, with another primary school only 200 metres away.
MMU has now appointed developers, Step Places and Southway Housing, who are currently finalising designs and will be applying for planning permission at some point over the next year. We intend to stop them getting this planning permission and in order to do so we need now to raise further funds to pay for reports, expert and legal advice.
Please help us with whatever you feel you are able to give.

10 days agoWe've upped our funding target today as we are now accepting donations specifically for the 'Alternative Plan' that the Ryebank Fields Community Group launched this week. Friends of Ryebank Fields are therefore currently sharing this page with them. If you want your donation to go towards this aim, then please mark it as 'Alternative Plan'. If not, your donation will go to the wider campaign to Save the Fields (e.g to fund the objection to planning work and any further legal costs later down the line). Thanks for all your support.

5 months agoThanks for all your donations to date . We have raised our target today from £3,800 to £5,000 and we may well raise it again in the new year when we will have a clearer view of what funds we will need for our campaign.
