Story
My stepfather Dr Alan Sykes sadly passed away on the 5th July 2017 after serving the Beeford and Leven area for 33 years working at the Leven and Beeford Medical Practice. He was hugely respected and loved by colleagues and patients in the community for the work he has done and the people he has helped and saved. One person he had saved suffered a cardiac arrest outside Beeford surgery to which Dr Sykes successfully used a defibrillator and saved his life. He was not one for recognition but always looked at how things can be improved and how rural villages did not have public defibrillators in case of an emergency. During the sad time of his passing some of his patients thought it would be a great idea in tribute to Dr Sykes to have a fundraising event to install public defibrillators for emergencies in case ambulances which have to travel did not make it in time.
We hope to raise enough money to start putting defibrillators into local villages but with the mind-set of continuing to help more money to extend through East Yorkshire.
We hope the local media will get on board and help promote our campaign so we can buy as many as we possibly can in order to save lives for East Yorkshire.
This will also hopefully highlight that airliners do not carry defibrillators as this was Alan's biggest grievance that they do not carry them since they're simple to use and can save people's lives.
Please join us in Dr Alan Sykes' memory to buy as many defibrillators as we can for the local communities.
Thank you.
