Story

Declan McMullan suffered a Cardiac Arrest at his home on March 16th 2012 at the age of 19. The Cardiac Arrest was caused by an underlying condition known as Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome. Sadly Declan suffered brain damage and has been living with profound physical disability ever since.

Declan suffers from Locked in Syndrome and is unable to eat, speak, move or see and is confined to a wheelchair. He communicates by blinking once for yes and twice for no. Thankfully his hearing has not been affected and he can spell words by blinking through the alphabet.

In the face of adversity, Declan has shown immense courage and strength and every day he overcomes unimaginable obstacles. With assistance, he participates in a variety of activities and even enjoys the occasional night out with his friends. With the help of family and friends, he has used his energy to raise awareness and funds for brain injury charities. His determination to live his life to the full is an inspiration to us all.

We would like to raise £5000 to help Declan meet the challenges of everyday life. On June 8th we will be taking part in The Great North Swim at Lake Windermere. We hope to complete a gruelling 10km swim in less than 4 Hours. We would be delighted if you can donate and show your support for this inspirational young man.
