Iʼm raising £100,000 to Raise funds for the Roy Hudd Statue Appeal

Story
There was a little less laughter in the world when Roy Hudd died in 2020.
He brought so much pleasure, to so many of all ages through his work as a performer.
Throughout his 64 year career he never forgot his roots and how hard times had been for him and his gran, (who never complained) as a boy growing up in Croydon.
He always wanted to do something for those who, for whatever reason, needed a little help. Not only did he donate to many charities, the likes of Barnardo's, Shelter, Cancer UK, and The Dog Trust, to name but a few. But he gave what I think was his most treasured asset, his time.
Whether it be putting on a show or turning up to an event to help raise funds. He would always say, "We're privileged to be doing a job we love, if we can use it to help others, well that's marvelous".
He gave joy to others all his working life, so I would love us to be able to show our appreciation for a kind, generous and talented man by raising money for a statue of Roy in Bronze. Not high up on a pedestal, that certainly wasn't Roy, he’ll be sitting on a bench where you can join him for your interval ice cream or gin and tonic, hopefully at The Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, a theatre he loved, greeting new audiences for years to come.
Thank you,
Debbie

2 months agoIn August I went with Sean the sculptor to where they're making the bronze statue. OMG it was quite emotional. There is still some work to be done but it's starting to look fabulous. In the same room they were making a statue of the late Queen, I went over and whispered, "You're in great company your Majesty". I've started a list for anyone who would like to purchase one of the 36 limited editions of the maquettes, £1,500 each. Once the first one is made (that's mine) I'll post a photo - watch this space. Donations still needed please.

4 months agoI would like to say a big thank you to the Derby & Notts Music Hall Society. Sadly after Covid and various other circumstances they had to bring the curtain down. However they have been extremely generous in dividing what was left in the kitty between some worthy causes, the Roy Hudd Statue Appeal being one of them. So I thank the band of merry Music Hall supporters of Derby & Notts for remembering Roy. x

5 months agoThe charismatic "Tom Carradine" & his 5 piece band "The China Plates" will be performing his Cockney Sing-A-Long Feat, Tues July 30th & Wed July 31st at 7.30pm. He very kindly asked the managment if we could have a bucket collection for the Statue Appeal. So, I along with some friends will be rattling our buckets, and having a fabulous evening of entertainment. See you there. X

Debbie has been so kind to allow me access to Roy’s archive to further my project to recover R. P. Weston and Bert Lee’s songs, I am pleased to be able to make a modest contribution to the appeal.

I respected Roy Hudd and I loved his work in keeping the history of the music hall alive. Sadly I never had the chance to see him live or meet him. A statue would be a awesome tribute to him.

Happy to donate for a fitting tribute to the lovely Roy Hudd. One of the old school generation of comics, sadly slipping away now.
