Story

Debbie Smith is our gorgeous, fun loving amazing sister in law. She is Mum to our beautiful nieces age 7 and 9. Just before Christmas Debs was given the devastating news that she has a very aggressive and incurable brain tumour.

Since creating this page Debs has spent a lot of time researching immunotherapy in Germany.

12/04/18 - Debs is currently in Germany and has asked me to add this update to her story.

Treatment update: I thought I had an affordable immunotherapy option in Cologne that was a good option, but then came to the Hallwang Clinic and was blown away by their targeted therapies and immunotherapy that was 3rd generation and very specific to my tumour and the mutations it has. They can also prescribe off-label drugs and they can be administered in a full clinical environment with oncologists and nurses on hand 24/7. I decided to stay here and start immediately for five days of treatment. However, the costs are huge, over £130,000 for the 5 days and I need a minimum of 4 more treatments at £30,000 each over the next 3 months. I have been so lucky that my ex-husband has made the huge sacrifice of funding the shortfall for my treatment. But now I need to raise the next amounts. I plead that you please share far and wide. Please think of ways I can raise money and please send to anyone you think could help. I am so hopeful this treatment can give me more time with my precious girls. Thank you so very much

January 2018 - We are setting up this fund for three reasons. The first is so that Debs can take part in medical trials which have very positive results in terms of lengthening life, particularly for someone like Debs who is young and fit. One such example is a drugs repurposing trial which Debs is already signed up to, it demonstrates positive results but is costly.

The second is so that Debs can take part in immunotherapy treatment. This is very expensive and not available on the NHS for glioblastomas at the moment. Pursuing this is likely to cost around £200,000 at a private oncology clinic in Germany.

The third reason is to create a making memories fund for Debs and the girls.

If you are able to make a contribution however big or small we would really appreciate it and so would Debs.

With love

Dee, Liz and Katie Smith
